Hey John, first chance I have gotten to check out the site. Its great being part of Rhema. I in college was involved with campus ministries, including Wesleyan's BSU but now that I am out of college, its great to have a group to be part of. I have been going to Bellevue with Jamie for more then four years (Jamie has been going longer then that) but we haven't done much to get involved (other then our trip to Mexico this past summer).
Thanks for doing such a great job leading each week and I will try to check this site more often and make comments on your blogs.
I was thinking about your guy’s discussion on how old the earth is. I haven't studied the subject enough to know, I have always heard 6 billion years from textbooks but have no idea on the truth behind the figures...
I do see Science and Christianity to be perceived by many as rivals against each other, as if one is right and one is wrong. Obviously some scientific theory is wrong, just as many Christian doctrines are wrong by not interpreting the text correctly. I do believe that Science and Christianity can easily be telling the truth simply looking at two different sides of a coin.
For example look at baking a cake. A scientist would tell you that to bake a cake you must have the cake mix, eggs, oil, a bowl and spoon to mix the ingredients, and a oven to cook it in. All of this is true, but you cannot simply sit these ingredients next to each other on the counter and it will magically form a cake. You must have someone mix the ingredients together, and that is where God comes in. Scientist may tell us the recipe for creation but it is God who created the ingredients and put the ingredients together.
The more someone studies Science the more challenging it is to be an atheist. This is simply because Science shows how crazy and illogical it would be for everything simply magically coming together, even more illogical then ingredients of a cake forming on its own.
